It' s a kind of magic....
Whereas the Dordogne region is marked by the touristic infrastructure, the neighbouring department Lot surprises by its unspoiled character. What they share is their rich nature, gastronomy and history. And both departments posess a beautiful river from which they got their name.
What is more relaxing than, after a pleasant day of walking, cycling or canoeing, to enjoy the pure and honest local cuisine, together with a good glass of wine?
Examples of regional specialities are Quercy-lamb, magret or confit of duck, duck or goose-liver (foie gras), truffles, safran, goat's cheese labelled AOC Rocamadour, Quercy-melons, walnuts and of course the famous Cahors wine, the Black Wine.
How to reach this paradise ?
You can comfortably reach the Dordogne & Lot region by car from Calais in about 10 hours, by preferring the motorways. If you like the smaller routes, allow two days to travel.
The train is an excellent alternative: from Paris you get to Cahors in about 4 hours.
Airports in this area are Bergerac, Brive-Souillac or Toulouse, where you can rent a car.
